Robert S. Glenn

Robert Strudwick Glenn, 89, died on Thursday, June 2, 2011, after a short illness.
Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on July 30, 1921, he lived in Norfolk, Virginia, graduating in 1939 from Woodberry Forest School in Virginia and in 1943 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Immediately after graduation he reported to the United States Marine Corps at Parris Island, later receiving a commission as Second Lieutenant at Quantico, Virginia. He served with the 3rd Marine Division as a Naval Gunfire Spotter on Guam and Iwo Jima. For action on Iwo Jima he was awarded the Navy Cross.
In 1947, he moved to Savannah, joining Lamborn & Co., General Brokers for the Savannah Sugar Refining Corp. Called back into service with Savannah's Dog Company, USMCR in 1950, he served a year in Korea. When Lamborn closed its Savannah office, he began work for Savannah Foods & Industries, Inc., from which he retired in 1987 after thirteen years.
For thirty years he was on the board of directors at Natrochem, Inc., Savannah. At various times he was a member of or served on the boards of The Savannah Benevolent Association, Greenbriar Children's Center, Royce Learning Center, Historic District Board of Review, The Georgia Historical Society and Telfair Academy of Arts & Sciences. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the St. Andrews Society and The Society of Colonial Wars and a past member of The Oglethorpe Club, The Savannah Golf Club and The Madeira Club.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Myers Glenn; two sons and a daughter, Robert Strudwick Glenn, Jr., Carolyn Nash Glenn and Cooper Lenoir Glenn; daughter-in-law Deborah Porter Glenn; three grandchildren, Catherine Strudwick Glenn, Samuel Lenoir Glenn and Theodore Porter Glenn; a sister, Mrs. Elisabeth C. Burgess and her husband, Charles, of Norfolk, Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral: Graveside service at Bonaventure Cemetery on Saturday, June 4th at 11:00AM.
